Marco Silva looking to spend big after joining Everton FC
New Toffees looking at some marquee signings this summer and hopes Wayne Rooney might stay
Everton fans got their wish when Sam Allardyce was sacked and Marco Silva is now the man briefed with steering the Toffees towards the top six of the Premier League table next season.
The Portuguese took his first press conference at the club on Monday, with the former Hull manager outlining some “big name signings” and also leaving the door open for Wayne Rooney.
The former Watford manager said: “It is easy to understand the culture and identity. I know what the fans expect to see every time.
“I don’t want to compare nothing. Now is the moment to prove again, it is a big challenge for us. To win matches you need to create chances and score.
“I have big names. The list is not so big. We will do everything we can to improve. I like to see competition between players every day.”
Director of football Marcel Brands said: “We do it together. I worked with a lot of good coaches, with LVG (Louis van Gaal), with Ronald Koeman, Phillip Cocu and we didn’t have one player we didn’t agree on.”
