Liverpool FC miss out on Nabil Fekir signing
Lyon announce that Fekir will remain with French club despite interest from Liverpool
Nabil Fekir looked set to be announced as a Liverpool player this summer, although it appears that the Merseyside club have failed to agree terms with Lyon regarding the attacking midfielder.
Fekir is currently in the France squad for the 2018 World Cup, with the 24-year-old having impressed for the Ligue 1 club this season, although Liverpool have been thwarted in their attempts to sign him.
“Transfer negotiations with Liverpool and Nabil Fekir for the transfer of the captain of OL have not succeeded and Olympique Lyonnais have decided to put an end to this negotiation tonight at 8pm,” the club said in a statement on its official website.
The club’s statement continued: “Although Liverpool have been the priority of a possible transfer for Nabil … Olympique Lyonnais is delighted to be able to count on the presence of our captain, who is a leading player for the 2018-19 season when the club will play in the Champions League.”
It remains to be seen whether Fekir will remain with Lyon considering several other top European clubs will be chasing his signature in the coming weeks, especially if he plays a prominent part of the World Cup campaign with France.
